About Us

Dalton School is very proud to have achieved the prestigious National award for Inclusion.  The full report can be found on our Parents page.

Dalton School is a very large primary school, with 500 pupils from nursery to Year 6.  We are situated near to Huddersfield town centre in West Yorkshire. Our Local Authority is Kirklees and we form part of the Huddersfield Excellence in Cities cluster of schools.

A unique feature of our school is our unit for pupils with a visual impairment. This unit adds an extra dimension to our school and we are extremely proud of the inclusion that we provide.  We place each and every child at the heart of our teaching and learning and offer a broad, balanced and personalised curriculum, enriched with visitors, trips, events and activities to inspire a love of life-long learning.

Everyone working in or for our school shares an objective to help keep children and young people safe by contributing to:

  •  providing a safe environment for children and young people to learn and develop in our school setting, and
  • identifying children and young people who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm, and taking appropriate action with the aim of making sure they are kept safe both at home and in our school setting.

We extend a warm welcome to you and your family to come and see why Dalton School JIN is such a special place.

Dalton School is an inclusive school where all children are treated equally and are given equality of opportunity regardless of age, ability, gender or race.

Teaching and learning will take account of the differing needs of our pupils and work will be tailored to meet those individual needs.

Children will benefit from our new and exciting curriculum that is rich, broad and balanced.  The curriculum will be presented in an interesting and imaginative way, providing opportunities for first-hand experience, practical work, investigation and learning through play.  Teaching and learning will be enlivened by visits and visitors, including greater use of the local environment.  Children will be taught the key learning skills which will help to develop them as lifelong learners.  After school activities will be offered throughout the year to extend and enrich learning.

Teacher expectations of themselves and their pupils will be high and children will be encouraged to set high standards for themselves.

Success will be promoted and achievement rewarded.

Parents and the wider community will be seen as equal partners and will be welcomed into school.

Dalton School is a happy place where children feel confident, safe and secure, are keen to learn, care about each other and behave well.

The Head Teacher will drive effective systems for self evaluation to ensure promotion of high standards.
